Structural Features
● According to Clause 11.0.12 of the "Technical Code for Fire Water Supply and Fire Hydrant Systems" GB50974-2014, this clause is mandatory. Pressure activation, remote start, and manual pull-wire activation all rely on relays to automatically initiate the fire pump. However, if the relays or weak-current signaling systems fail, preventing the automatic start of the fire pump, operators must rely on the "mechanical emergency start device" installed in the fire pump control cabinet to manually start the pump directly.
In cases where both the weak-current signals and the manual pull-wire relay fail, and when secondary circuit or electrical faults within the fire pump control cabinet prevent the pump from starting—either automatically or manually—the mechanical emergency start device becomes essential. In an urgent fire situation, this clause mandates that, as long as the primary power supply remains intact, the fire pump can be forcibly started directly, regardless of any damage to the control circuits inside the pump control cabinet. This ensures timely fire suppression during emergencies.
The mechanical emergency start device operates via a direct mechanical linkage system, enabling immediate activation of the fire pump. It can be configured with either star-delta or reduced-voltage starting methods.
Notably, the emergency start device’s manual lever is normally kept in the "stop" position (with a lock) and can only be activated by authorized personnel during an emergency fire alarm. The device is securely locked except under such circumstances, ensuring that only those with proper clearance can access it. Importantly, once activated, the time required—from the moment the alarm is triggered until the fire pump delivers water at full pressure—must not exceed 5 minutes. This timeframe accounts for the time it takes for authorized personnel to move from the control room to the pump room, as well as the actual duration needed for the fire pump to transition from forced start-up to stable water supply.
